Intimacy + Sex

Creating space for the intersection of sexuality + mental health.

Sexuality is a part of all of us. But what is sexuality? Most people usually think sex when they hear the term sexuality. Yet sexuality is so much more than just the act of sex. Sexuality encompasses our attitudes about sex; our beliefs and feelings; gender identity; gender roles and expectations; sexual behaviors, alone or partnered; capacity for erotic response, sexual protestation, and attraction; and social and cultural implications of sex.

We get that being open about your sexuality isn’t always easy. Our trained therapist are committed to providing our clients and community access to expert driven information, professional resources, and a safe and inclusive space for client to explore the intersection of sexuality, relationships, and mental wellness.

Since sexuality is a big part of our life, we can all experience minor interruptions to our expression and interest. Often these changes or interruptions are due to everyday stressors or life transitions that can be resolved in time on their own. These are common and can be normal reactions to difficult times in our lives. You may be beginning to discuss alternative relationships, exploring new ways to play sexually, or having conflicts of libido with your partner. Get support from one of our therapist to help you feel like yourself again.

However, when intense anxiety builds, or feelings of sadness or anger, or interpersonal conflicts continues, it can have a bigger influence on our sexuality. When things are not going well, it can effect how you act, what you think and how you feel. All of which have significant effects on your total wellness.

Whether you are interested in individual, couples or group therapy, when you’re ready to make a change in your life, our skilled therapists are here to support you in as you explore the intersection of your sexuality, relationships, and mental wellness.

Most likely you’ve tried numerous strategies already in an attempt to feel more satisfaction in your relationship, partnerships, or sex life. When those strategies haven’t worked or, sadly, made things worse, we can help. We are here to help you find perspective on what you’re going through, provide education on intimacy and relationships, and support you in healing. Aligned with the 4 pillars of wellness, we will provide you with skills to enhance your intimate connection in your relationships, and help you build a satisfactory life of intimacy and connectedness.

Exploring and healing intimacy oftentimes comes from collaboration of your partner(s), medical professionals, and therapists (either individual, couples or group therapy). If you are in a partnership, we find that couples therapy is the most effective in improving your intimacy satisfaction. We can also coordinate with you and your doctor to provide the ongoing support essential to restoring your intimacy. Some of the common modalities used in treating intimacy +sex include Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Acceptation and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Polyvagal therapy, relationship skills, and sex therapy. Not all these modalities are utilized at Total Wellness 365.
